Aid for Wildfire Victims

Aid for Wildfire Victims

March 7th was a tragic day for ranching families in Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas.   Wildfires ripped through that area, burning more than 1.5 million acres of range land.  Rapidly moving blazes took the lives of 6 people, destroyed homes, barns, corrals and approximately 13,000 head of cattle were lost.  This is a tragedy of immense proportions for families that make their living from the land, providing us with wholesome, nutritious beef.  For the most part New Mexico was spared but that didn’t keep the members of New Mexico Farm & Livestock Bureau’s Young Farmers & Ranchers group from springing into action.  With donated materials they spent a day building 80 H-braces to help affected ranchers repair their fences. With over $10 million dollars worth of fences that need to be replaced, this donation will go a long way in providing relief to these families.  They plan to provide more fencing materials and if you would like to contribute to the cause, send your check to NMF&LB State Office, 2220 N. Telshor, Las Cruces, NM 88011, attn: YF&R Wildfire Relief. Thank you to these wonderful YF&R members for your big hearts, and thanks to all that donate! Photos courtesy of Jeff Mayberry.
